Documentary Films & Originals
We follow the rhythm of real life: its stillness, its scale, its stillness, its sudden turns. We create observational and investigative documentaries, capturing once-in-a-lifetime moments and intimate master interviews with the same curiosity and care.
How we can help
We help broadcasters and organisations develop and tell real stories from Latin America and Europe through documentary filmmaking.
Documentary films
Short and long-form documentary films built around real people, strong access and compelling stories.
Research and story development
Story research, contributor mapping, access development, pre-interviews and editorial support for projects at an early stage.
Field production and access
Local producing, fixing, permits, interviews and on-the-ground production support (See services).
Documentary campaigns
Story-led films and supporting assets designed for organisations that want to engage audiences through authentic stories.
Why organisations work with us
We combine investigative curiosity, anthropological observation and cinematic storytelling with the ability to work across cultures, languages and contexts. That means we can enter unfamiliar places with care, build trust with contributors and create films that feel intimate, truthful and culturally attuned.
Access and trust. Editorial judgement. Cultural understanding. Craft.

People & Power: Water for Data
Co-Produced Documentary for Al Jazeera English with Studio 9 Films
Water for Data exposes the hidden water footprint behind our digital lives. People & Power: Water for Data

Dir. Oliver Steven Jones
Water for Data pulls back the curtain on the world’s fastest-growing infrastructure, the data centres powering AI, streaming and cloud computing, and exposes a resource they highly depend on: water. Filmed in drought-strained communities such as Querétaro, Mexico, the film traces the collision between digital expansion and local scarcity. The result is a sharp, human portrait of a global system we all rely on, but rarely see.

Ongoing International Documentary Work Collaboration
Ospina Jones Studios works with Yle, the Finnish public broadcaster, as one of their trusted production partner across the United States, Canada, and Latin America. Together we’ve delivered documentaries, news reports, and interactive digital stories on topics including abortion (later broadcast by Deutsche Welle), traditional Christian values, migration, and Canada–US trade tensions—handling difficult access, including to an abortion clinic, research, story development, logistics, and all on-the-ground production.
Our producing enables Yle’s journalists to work safely and sensitively in complex environments. The collaboration is built on trust, clarity, and a shared commitment to human-centred documentary storytelling.

On Assignment
International Documentary work for ITV1 and X

On Assignment Series 9 & 10
From New York to Romania, we joined ITV’s On Assignment to film ex-convicts turned cannabis entrepreneurs and track wild bison in the Carpathians. Shot across three continents, these documentaries reflect our approach: intimate access, striking visuals, and stories that bridge the personal and the political.

Founder Oliver Steven Jones worked with ITV’s On Assignment to direct and film international short documentaries for ITN. The stories ranged from drug addiction in the United States to fire-walking traditions in rural Bulgaria, and an exclusive look inside a transgender cell block in an Italian prison.
As the filmmaker on the ground, he captured the moments, atmospheres, and emotional truth that shaped each film. From navigating sensitive environments to documenting unguarded exchanges, he built the visual and human backbone of every story.
Originals: Our Next Chapter
Alongisde commissioned work, we are developing our first slate of original documentary films, stories rooted in long-term access across Latin America.
These films are shaped by time and trust. They stay close to the people at their centre while opening out onto wider questions of labour, identity, and belonging.
Originals are the long-term creative spine of the studio. They are where we move at the pace the story demands, and commit to complexity rather than convenience.
If you’re interested in collaborating or learning more as these films take shape, we’d love to talk.

¿Qué va a llevar? / The Last Days of Frutería Pepe
After 40 years on the same Mexico City block, a family-run fruit shop is priced out of its long-time home as rising rents push neighbourhood businesses out of the city’s daily life.
Shot in the final days before the shop leaves Polanco, the film follows Sthefany Bonifacio, her family and the people around Frutería Pepe as they carry on with the work of the day while a place that shaped their lives disappears.
The film is currently in post-production, and we welcome conversations with potential co-producers, finishing funders and festival partners, particularly Mexican-resident production companies.
