Directed, produced and filmed by Ospina Jones Studios with Studio 9 Films for Al Jazeera English, Water for Data was shot over two weeks in April 2025 in Queretaro, Mexico — a region where residents have endured months without running water as new artificial intelligence data centres rose around them.

 

Featuring the state’s Sustainability Secretary, Marco del Prete, whose comments reveal a stark indifference to the problem, and residents who are struggling with little water, the film captures the tension between technological progress and basic human need.
